Why are you adjusting the temperature on my hot water system?
If you have an electric hot water system and the heating temperature is above 60 degrees, it is unnecessarily using excess energy and wasting your money.
Heating water accounts for a large proportion of your power bill, so in order to increase the energy efficiency of your household and help cut down your power bill, we'll check out your hot water system to see what temperature it is heating to and whether it can be easily adjusted.
If it all checks out ok, our ClimateSmart electrician will adjust your hot water system temperature to 60 degrees, which is the recommended temperature for water heating to avoid wasting electricity but also keeping the water hot enough to kill any bacteria. An extra bonus of reducing your hot water temperature is it will help reduce scalding or burns from hot water use in your household.

Will all types of hot water systems have the temperature adjusted as part of the ClimateSmart Home Service?
No. Only electric hot water systems with a temperature above 60 degrees will be looked at to determine whether they can be adjusted. Other types of hot water systems are not suitable for the temperature adjustment or are not wasting energy in the first place, so won’t require the adjustment.
There are a number of factors that our ClimateSmart electrician will check to determine whether to adjust the temperature of your hot water system. These factors include:
- whether your hot water system temperature is above the required temperature
- whether it is safe to access and easy to adjust, and
- whether it is a suitable model and size for the adjustment.

My hot water temperature is above 60 degrees and it hasn't been adjusted by the ClimateSmart Home Service (as I'm either not eligible for this service offering or the electrician was unable to adjust the temperature during my service). How can I get this adjusted?
